From our 1,000 acre base at Crockey Hill, the arable side of Hobson Farming caters for both big and small farming contracts alike.

We are proud to count among our client’s, large estates such as Escrick Park Estate, Scampston Hall Estate and Wintringham Estate as well as smaller contract farms of one or two hundred acres; all which benefit from the same level of service Hobson Farming can provide.

A Reliable partner

We value the relationships we build with all the Famers and Estate Mangers we work with, and carefully tailor our approach to each individual farm situation.

The latest ‘up to date’ machinery ensures delivery of a reliable service at a competitive price.  Our in-house administration capability can manage all Recording (Gatekeeper), Accounts (FBM), BPS and Stewardship Compliance and Submission, Purchasing (Anglia Farmers).

High ValuE, BUT BALANCED ROTATIONS

Wherever appropriate, Hobson Farming employs a healthy rotation of higher value cropping to maximise financial returns to the Land Owner.  Our light land rotations frequently include carrots, potatoes, turf, red beet and maize which boost our farmers’ returns above those of straight cereal rotations.

Looking after the land

Our heritage means that we understand the importance of caring for the land.  Maintenance of soil structure and land quality is at the centre of this ethos.

We preserve soil structure with timeliness of cultivations and careful harvesting using low ground pressure machinery. We know that this attention to detail and responsible harvesting pays dividends in the long term.

We believe in building organic matter levels (to aid water retention and drainage) through a programme of application of traceable organic manures that we carefully source throughout Yorkshire.

We particularly focus on maintenance and improvement of land drainage systems.

At Hobson Farming we recognise in particular the importance of ploughing and traditional cultivations both to enhance soil structure and to control invasive weeds

Hobson Farming proudly hosted the World Ploughing Championships 2016 at Naburn Hill Farm, using 500 acres of land for the event.  The World Ploughing 2016  incorporated both the 66th British National Ploughing Championships and the 63rd World Ploughing Contest.
